Watched a documentary all about Bowie during this period. His band had absolutely no idea this would be the last time Ziggy & The Spiders from Mars would be performing together. He announced it all onstage and never again performed as Ziggy Stardust. Incredibly ballsy and a bit dickish to his bandmates, but ultimately awesome and legendary.

Whatever happened to honesty? Is it still such a lonely word as Billy Joel once attested? I find the truth being held back because something as impulsive and irrational as emotion gets into the mix.

Honesty becomes so overshadowed by emotion because you don’t want that truth to affect another person if you know it will change the way they feel. But isn’t it better to set the truth free? Nobody wants to hold something inside for the wrong reasons.

So people justify lying because it allows them to achieve not hurting others emotionally in order to keep them in a desired frame of mind.

This can be as small-scaled as the feelings between two people, or on the grand scale of something as big as public perception. The goal of those in power to turn an emotional and fearful minority into an angry and assertive majority of Americans voting against their own best interest.

Ignorance is bliss. This is something I wish I could feel and would be possible were it not for my lack of religious influence. Though I did try. But I came to see there is too much contradiction in the world and the word to blindly follow. Not knocking the people that can. If you have no interest in looking deep and trying to unravel why and how something came to be and can still lead a blissful existence, that’s amazing. The understanding that there is a better place after this lifetime must bring a great deal more comfort to those blissful in their ignorance. Just the satisfaction and sincere certainty that a better place is waiting for them would of course lead to not questioning, but to acceptance and thus a happier life. Such a life would be almost dreamlike.

However this blissful ignorance has become less blissful and blossomed into a palpable fury aided by ignorance. Or ill-tempered irrational incapacity for those fans of stylistic devices. Anyway, this anger has grown and become something that has dominated the media airwaves, making a show of those most angry and ignorant and not scolding but applauding them for their so-called patriotism. With these sort of short-tempered citizens dominating the conversation on social issues it’s hard to get a word in edgewise. And thus people are swayed into thinking a mass majority believe what is being highlighted on the airwaves as a very loud minority.

But No More!

We must make our voice heard! Those of us who use logic and rationality must not be afraid to look at this and calmly respond; Why all this yelling? Just calm down for a second and let’s talk about this. No I’m not trying to sell you anything. No I didn’t vote for Nader. For fuck’s sake, I’m not trying to sell you pot! I’m just trying to make sense of the real issues we have with one another. Will you calmly & reasonably explain to me your point of view?

If I can do it, so can you!
